The Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, has identified poor leadership as one of the greatest challenges responsible for Africa’s underdevelopment.

Pastor Ajagba who disclosed this at Government College Umuahia, while delivering a lecture titled “The Characteristics of a Faithful Steward,” during the ongoing Abia Leadership Academy Cohort 2 program, stressed that Africa’s abundant natural resources can only translate into prosperity through visionary, faithful and purposeful leadership.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor while urging the participants to embrace integrity, accountability, humility and wisdom, stressed that leadership begins with the faithful management of responsibilities entrusted to an individual, and cautioned youths against allowing themselves to be used as instruments of electoral malpractice and corruption but to become agents of positive change, build their personal and professional reputations on honesty and consistency.

Describing the Abia Leadership Academy as a strategic investment in developing a new generation of responsible leaders, pastor Ajagba commended Governor Alex Otti for establishing the Academy, citing the administration’s initiatives, including the TechRise program and Smart Schools, as evidence of its commitment to human capital development, and urged the participants to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the academy and become leaders who would add value to society.

He further encouraged the participants to cultivate good judgement, compassion and continuous learning, while accepting responsibility for their mistakes rather than shifting blame.

In his vote of thanks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Communication, Mr Dodoh Okafor, appreciated Governor Otti for providing the platform for the leadership programme, as well as thanked Pastor Ajagba, the facilitators and organisers, urging the participants to apply the lessons learnt and prepare themselves for greater leadership responsibilities.
